TODAY'S TEMPO-Tuesday, February 7, 2017

[cid:image002.png at 01D083EC.DD886B50]

    The 2017 employee awards ceremony has been rescheduled, along with President Starcevich's MLK Jr. Day address, to Tuesday, March 7, at 2:30 p.m. at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center ballroom. A social hour and snacks will follow in the atrium of The Kirkwood Center at 3:30 p.m. The event will be accessible on your computer or other mobile device via livestream through www.kirkwood.edu/ktslive<http://www.kirkwood.edu/ktslive>.
    To view the recipients of the 2017 Kirkwood Difference Award and those receiving Years of Service recognition, please go to the Difference brochure in KIN -> Human Resources for Employees -> MLK Day folder. Due to time constraints with having to reschedule the awards ceremony to a day when classes are in session, the agenda had to be modified and we are unable to read aloud the Years of Service names. Gift certificates for Years of Service have been presented to these employees by their Cabinet member. Those 11 staff and faculty receiving the Difference Award will be recognized at the March 7 event by standing at their seats when their names are called.
    Other awardees who are asked to be present at the event to be recognized include:
      President's Award
      Distinguished Service Award
      Innovation Award
      Honorary Student Award
    Please plan to attend the event if you are able.
    --President's Office

    To coincide with President Starcevich's presentation and employee recognition, the MLK Day KFA & KSA Food Drive is rescheduled for Tuesday, March 7. There will be three food item drop-off locations that day:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->The library on main campus. (8 a.m.-5 p.m.)

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->The library on the Iowa City Campus. (8 a.m.-5 p.m.)

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->The Kirkwood Center during event times. (2:30-4:30 p.m.)
    Or. . . you may give your bagged items to any KSA or KFA representative prior to that day.

    Donations will go to the HACAP Food Reservoir and the Crisis Center of Johnson County. Please no glass containers or perishable items. Appreciated items are canned goods (peanut butter, veggies, fruit, tuna, soup, etc.), and boxed foods such as cereal, mac 'n cheese, instant potatoes, cake and cookie mixes, crackers, etc. Cash donations are also accepted. This is a great opportunity to help persons in our area communities.

    The fourth annual Candace Carmichael Elementary School Art Exhibit is currently on display at the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa. The exhibit honors the late Candace Carmichael, a long-time art educator in the Iowa City public schools. The exhibit features more than 100 pieces of art created by Iowa City public school students in kindergarten through sixth grade. All may visit the exhibit 8 a.m.-5 p.m., weekdays through February 9.

    Construction has begun on second floor Kirkwood Hall. Offices will continue to be open to serve students, but there are a few temporary moves. The One Stop Office has moved to the Marland Room in Iowa Hall next to Admissions. The Veteran's Affairs office will be located in Student Life. The Registrar and Financial Aid advisers will still be in Kirkwood Hall second floor within the conference rooms and office areas. Thank you for your patience through the construction.
    --Patrick Clemence, Enrollment

    Yesterday a short survey was emailed out regarding your thoughts on services and items offered by both EagleTech and the Bookstore on main campus. For those who may have missed it, please click here<https://classsurveyonline.kirkwood.edu/classclimate/online.php?pswd=TKFFE> to be taken to the survey. It takes about five minutes to complete and your confidential answers will be put to good use to help improve and expand our services. And better yet - everyone who responds by Friday, Feb. 17, will be included in a drawing for an iPad plus other goodies.

    This Is My Brave, The Show, is coming to Kirkwood on Saturday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in Ballantyne Auditorium. You are invited to submit your story by the February 10 deadline. The mission of This Is My Brave, a mental health nonprofit, is to end the stigma that continues to surround mental health issues through a live presentation of touching essays, poetry and original music from individuals living with, or loving someone with, a mental health issue.
    The show is powerful, thought-provoking and compelling. We are currently accepting submissions of individuals who want to share their story. Submissions must be under five minutes. Be creative, it's YOUR story! Please share this exciting opportunity with anyone you think might be interested.
    For more information or to submit your work, please email it here<mailto:Brook at thisismybrave.org>.
